Paris Hilton Released from Jail

Jun 8, 2007 | Category: Watches and Fashion

According to media reports, Paris Hilton was released from jail for medical reasons on Friday, June 8. Paris served only three days of her 23-day jail sentence. The 26-year-old heiress was initially given a 45-day sentence for violating probation that was later cut to 23 days.

A court spokesman said, Paris Hilton must appear in court for a hearing in a Los Angeles court on May 9. The hearing is devoted to the issue whether Paris should further serve her jail sentence. At the moment Paris Hilton is 'imprisoned' in her West Hollywood home. She must wear an electronic ankle bracelet for 40 days.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's office did not specify what were the medical reasons that led to Paris's release or why she could not be given medical help in jail. According to a TV show, Hilton had broken out in a rash on her body. Hilton herself said she felt thankful to the sheriff's department and jail personnel for treating her in the most professional way.

On Wednesday, Paris Hilton was visited by her psychiatrist Charles Sophy. Just 35 hours had passed after the heiress found herself in the Century Regional Detention Facility at Lynwood, the suburbs of Los Angeles. However, both the psychiatrist and Hilton's lawyer Richard Hutton refused to comment on the visit. According to TMZ.com, Paris Hilton complained on the phone that she suffered from insomnia and decreased appetite and that it was freezing cold in her small cell.

Hilton's early release from jail has caused outrage over special treatment provided for Hollywood's rich and famous and Los Angeles authorities have been under fire for cutting her jail term short. However, Steve Remige, president of Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs' Association commented that every day a lot of female prison inmates are released in custody, so Hilton is not a different case.

Under the home-confinement order, Paris Hilton was given back her 45-day sentence. According to Mr Whitmore of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's office, the heiress is credited with five days imprisonment, including Sunday and Thursday, having actually spent three full days in jail. The exact conditions of Paris Hilton's home confinement were not mentioned.

Paris Hilton admitted that she learned a great deal from the whole ordeal. She also said she hoped that her terrible experience served as a lesson to others who would learn from her mistakes.
