Madonna and Gucci are two iconic names in the world of fashion. Together they represent one of the most successful and enduring dream teams in the world. It is not a secret that the singer regularly appears wearing Gucci on stage and screen.
The Madonna-Gucci story started in 1999 when the star appeared wearing a black leather Gucci jacket. She told Larry King that one of her strongest perks was getting free clothes, while Gucci is well aware that the Madonna-effect has seen goods of the brand sell out overnight.
In 2008 the famous Italian fashion house and the celebrated American pop star will join efforts again. This time the team will to raise funds for the children of Malawi, the impoverished nation in southern Africa, with over one million orphans suffering from poverty.
Gucci will hold a fund-raising event with dinner, a musical performance and a party to mark the opening of the brand's largest store in the world. It will be called the New York Fifth Avenue flagship. The event will take place on February 6.
Gucci's creative director, Frida Giannini, will co-chair the fund-raising event dedicated to Raising Malawi and UNICEF. The money will be raised to support African children orphaned by HIV/AIDS and to raise public awareness.
Besides Madonna and Giannini, on the list of the event's co-chairs you will find Salma Hayek, Demi Moore, Lucy Liu, Adrien Brody, Arpad Busson, Ashton Kutcher and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Madonna and her husband, Guy Ritchie, still cherish hopes to adopt David Banda from Malawi. The boy's father sent him to an orphanage after his mother's death.
